HIGHLIGHTS
OF FIRST- AND SECOND-YEAR GERMAN
Native
Speaker Interviews: To give intermediate students
a chance to practice their conversational skills and
learn more about Swiss, Austrian or German Culture,
we will invite a native speaker of German to class.
Students will have a chance to prepare questions on
an interesting topic and interview the guest in German.
Interactive
Video Program: German 102 students work with
the video "Drehort: Neubrandenburg" (On location in
Neubrandenburg) which offers an interesting human perspective
on daily life in Post-Wende Germany. The video is accompanied
by an outstanding multi-media software program to enhance
listening comprehension and vocabulary development.
Here is what students write about Drehort: Neubrandenburg
Interaktiv.
- It brought
German out of the abstract into daily life!
- I learned
a lot about German culture and the German way of life.
- It allowed
a much more active learning process.
- The exercises
were very effective and it was much easier to grasp
concepts.
- We heard the
language over and over again: terrific reinforcement.
- I was encouraged
to do the homework because it was on the computer.
Online Grammar
Program: INTERMATIK is a web-based intermediate German
Grammar Review. This web-based grammar will allow you to read
concise, easy-to-follow grammar explanations, to hear all examples
spoken by a native speaker and to do your exercises right on
the computer. Appropriate feedback for all of your tasks is
included in the web-site. This is an exciting new tool in the
teaching of grammar and we are looking forward to your feedback.
The program is availabe over the internet on both computer
platforms. Here is what students write abou INTERMATIK:
-
INTERMATIK
is a wonderful change. it is nice to see alternatives
to using the boring textbook.
-
My
favorite aspect aboutINTERMATIK is the fact that
the program
is indeed interactive.
-
It has been
very helpful for me to have the computer help me through
my errors. I feel that this way, I have been able to
learn more effeciently.
-
This is MUCH
BETTER than a standard grammar book. It is not only
less burdensome, but it is easier to navigate and it
talks!! Thanks for incorporating this into the German
program here at NU.
Student Skits:
 |
Each
year, students have the opportunity to perform
a short skit for their class to show their best
German pronunciation, the vocabulary and idiomatic
expressions they have learned and their mastery
of grammatical structures. This fun event is
capped by the popular Evening of Skits at the
end of the quarter where the ten best skits from
first-year and second-year German are performed
for faculty, students and friends. |
