CORE COURSES
Language (4 units)
2 quarter-courses at the 200 level: 205-1 or 205-2 and either 203-1, 2, 207, or 209; and 2 quarter-courses at the 300 level: 303 and 305.

Literature (6 units)
3 quarter-courses at the 200 level: 221-1,2,3, 223, 227, or 245; and 3 quarter-courses at the 300 level: 321-1,2,3, 325, 331, 333, 337, 345, or 398.

History / Culture (2 units)
1 quarter-course at the 200 level and 1 quarter-course at the 300 level, or 2 quarter-courses at the 300 level; these may be chosen from 222, 224, 228, or HISTORY 344-2, or HISTORY 349.

CONCENTRATIONS (3 units; choose one topic)
Business Studies
1 quarter-course at the 200 level, 209, and 2 quarter-courses at the 300 level, 309-1, 2. 

Critical Thought
3 quarter-courses at the 300 level: 322, PHIL 310 or 314, and an undergraduate or graduate seminar in German or comparative literature.

German-Jewish Studies
2 quarter-courses at the 200 level, 234-1,2; 1 quarter-course from HISTORY 344-1, 344-2, or 349; or 1 quarter-course from RELIGION 230, 331, 333, 334, 339.

History
1 quarter-course at the 200 level and 2 quarter-courses at the 300 level: 222, 224, or 228; HISTORY 344-1,2 and 349.

Culture and Literature
1 quarter-course at the 200 level and 2 quarter-courses at the 300 level: 221-1,2,3, 223, 227, 245; 226, 230, 232, 236, 238, 240, 246; 321-1,2,3, 325, 331, 333, 337, 345, 398; 322, 324, 326, or 328.

Courses indicated as a prerequisite for an advanced course may not be taken for credit after the advanced course. Students returning from a study abroad program in their junior year must enroll in at least one 300-level quarter course in the department. Students completing a German Major with a concentration in Business Studies have a chance to take one or both of the internationally recognized Business German Examinations offered through Northwestern University.
