The major in German requires 15 courses, 12 core courses and 3 courses for the concentration. There are five concentrations (Critical Thought, Business Studies, German-Jewish Studies, History, and Culture and Literature) from which students will choose one.

History

Courses indicated as a prerequisite for an advanced course may not be taken for credit after the advanced course. Students returning from a study abroad program in their junior year must enroll in at least one 300-level quarter course in the department. Students completing a German Major with a concentration in Business Studies have a chance to take one or both of the internationally recognized Business German Examinations offered through Northwestern University.
