TEST RESULTS AND VALIDATION
Any student with prior
knowledge of German (acquired through schooling, study abroad, travel, or through interactions with bilingual parents or relatives) will have to take the German Placement Exam prior to taking German classes here at Northwestern. The outcome or results of the German Placement Exam will identify the appropriate German class for each student to register from which he/she will begin work towards fulfilling the German Language Requirement at Northwestern. Usually, a
student will have to pass German 102-3 with a grade of C- or better to fulfill the two-year Language Requirement.
Students with very good
German skills may pass the two-year German Language
Proficiency Requirement by taking a test called German
Proficiency Validation Exam. In order to be considered
for the German Proficiency Validation Exam, students
MUST take the German Placement Exam first. If their
score is sufficiently high, they will be contacted
by the German Department with further information for
taking the exam.
The German Proficiency
Validation Exam is composed of two parts (an oral interview
and a composition) and will take about 1 to1/2 hours.
If you took the German
Placement Exam in the Fall 2003 or later, you can
check your test results on the following web page:
