FORMAT OF THE PLACEMENT TEST

The German Placement Exam has various sesctions with easier and more difficult tasks. You should attempt to do all of the sections. You can take as much time for the exam as you like. However, the exam must be taken without any outside help or books to accurately place you in the appropriate German course. The German Placement Exam tests your language skills in several areas:

 

Part 1

Vocabulary:
Multiple Choice Section

20 Points

Part 2

Structure:
Multiple Choice Section

30 Points

Part 3

Reading Comprehension 1:
Reading Text; Multiple Choice Section

6 Points

Part 4

Reading Comprehension 2:
Reading Text; Multiple Choice Section

6 Points
Part 5 Listening Comprehension 1:
Responses to Realia		 2 Points
Part 6 Listening Comprehension 2:
Situational Responses		 5 Points
Part 7 Listening Comprehension 3:
Responses to a newspaper article		 3 Points

Part 8

Completion Test:
Fill-in Section

25 Points

Part 9

Picture Description:
Creative Writing Section
