Kristine A. Thorsen (A.M. The Graduate Library School, University of Chicago and Ph.D. Northwestern University) is currently a part-time lecturer in the department of German and a freshman advisor for the College.

Dr. Thorsen teaches elementary German, freshman seminars ("Telling the Story: New German Fiction" and "European Bestsellers as Transnational Literature") and courses in contemporary literature in translation ("New Voices in German Literature" and "Women Writing the Nineties & Beyond"). During her long association with the Department of German, she has coordinated both elementary and intermediate German courses, pioneered courses on contemporary literature and literature by women, and has also served as a bibliographer for foreign language literature in the University Library. Her research interests include foreign language pedagogy and contemporary German literature.
