Professor Andreas Niederberger's current research focuses on the principles and the constitution of transnational democracy as a cosmopolitan political and legal structure. He studies the revision of existing conceptions of justice and democracy and the role of (international) law in a legitimate global political structure and in the European Union. Professor Niederberger has published and edited books and articles on action theory, democratic theory, the European Union, the philosophy of international relations, poststructuralist political philosophy and theory, and on the history of philosophy.

He studied in Frankfurt/Main (Germany), Paris (France) and St. Louis (USA) and previously taught philosophy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt/Main (Germany).
